No one would disagree that the Internet has changed the way we all view marketing. After 25 years in traditional advertising, marketing and brand building, most of which was spent watching the degeneration of the ad agency model as centric to the marketing process, I now wake up in the mornings with the knowledge that I am ahead.

Let me repeat. I am ahead. And for all those still in the ad agency world I just want to say, I am ahead.

Why? How?

My company has pioneered an Internet Marketing strategy, better labeled as a process known as Non Linear Internet Marketing or NLIM. NLIM is the process of delivering ever increasing, qualified traffic to a targeted website without the use of a Search Engine or Pay Per Click Advertising or Traditional Media.

We use the Internet to deliver traffic to the Internet. What has caused this to be so effective are four major shifts that have occurred in the marketing world. It is imperative for marketers to understand why their jobs are in danger or at least in danger of changing dramatically. Drive traffic to our website, is the order of the day.

Understanding why that is the order of the day comes from identifying and understanding the four fundamental shifts in marketing caused by the Internet.

SHIFT 1 From Advertising to Marketing
Marketing was the naturual evolution of a mediated nation. As media began to spread nationally with radio, television and print in the 1950s, the cost of selling goods took on national boundaries. This meant companies creating new products for sale had much higher associated costs of sales. Higher costs meant more risk. When risk increases, companies become more focused on what they are doing to make money. This focus caused corporations to employ research that told them what the American public wanted; before the product was manufactured. Once a need or desire was identified, the risk of creating a product that met the need was greatly reduced, especially if no other company was doing anything to meet the identified need.

Marketing became the order of the day. Companies who had Vice Presidents of Advertising suddenly had Vice Presidents of Marketing. After all, the number one job of management is to make things predictable according to Peter Drucker. As time evolved, all the major needs and desires of the American consumer were met. Identifying new markets became increasingly difficult. Marketing devolved into a misnomer. It became the process of coordinating sales and advertising and events and public relations. But, identifying opportunities and needs disappeared. There was nothing new under the sun, after all.

The other day, we discovered there were 130,000 searches a month for sausage pizza on the Internet and guess what? There were precious few companies competing for that traffic. A need was identified that no company was aggressively pursuing to fulfill. Our client is much the wiser now. So the circle is complete. The Internet allows us to identify pent up demands with varying degrees of competition. Find a need with relatively low competition for Internet visibility and then simply do the math of Non Linear Internet Marketing to determine how much effort is required to reach targeted sales goals.

SHIFT 2 Content to Connectivity
In the old, traditional media world, there were three television choices: ABC, NBC and CBS. On the weekends, there was one college football game, one pro football game and Heidi to choose from. Sometimes, Heidi even supplanted football. In that world, content is what attracted the eyeballs. This is no longer the case. Now, every website can sell advertising.

If it quacks like a duck, its a good chance its a duck. Every company with a website is now in the media business and every business needs qualified eyeballs. The problem is attracting those eyeballs. With 6 million additional pages indexed by the Search Engine world every day, the Internet will grow to unfathomable numbers. That means it will become harder, not easier to attract the eyeballs. To do so, content is less important. What counts is connectivity: how many places does your link show up and how many places on the Internet can people hear, see, read about you that will cause them to come to your site and eventually buy what you are selling.

Look at the shift to connectivity as a billboard advertising campaign for your city. Your city has roads and highways and intersections that have varying degrees of traffic. So does the Internet. If you could place a billboard at every intersection of your city, you would create a unavoidable awareness for your company. The Internet is no different except that you are dealing with millions of potential intersections and many of them are free and many more millions are waiting for you to create them.

Part of NLIM demands that you create your own intersections, but that is the subject of another article. This shift to connectivity can be seen in cultural phenomenas, like Myspace and Youtube. Content does not exist except for the purpose of connecting people through a common experience or a common set of beliefs.

SHIFT 3 Quality to Quantity
Spelling no longer matters. Spelling is the linchpin of the old world values which are based on the somewhat antiquated concept known as quality. What was the ubiquitous Ford slogan of the last 20 years? Quality is job 1? See where the Ford stock is lately?

In the traditional world of a few TV and radio stations, the standard of quality for what was sent out was very particular and strictly enforced. In the new world of Connectivity, the emphasis is on quantity. Why? Because its not even important whether or not your spelling is correct as long as the link is listed properly.

Email and text messaging will place things like LOL into Websters dictionary in the not too distant future. Why? Because we are able to communicate to more people more often which means we have to IM ASAP. If you dont know what I just said, you are over 35, which makes you an alien to this plan; literally.

Communication is defined in every Communications 101 class on every college campus as a message with a sender and a receiver. It was always assumed that quality was inherent in the message. No longer. Blogs are replacing traditional news sources such as NBC and the New York Times. And most of those blogs are filled with grammatical and spelling mistakes. No one cares. Ask a 20 year old if they read the newspaper and they laugh. Ask them if they watch TV while they are watching TV and they will look up at you from their computer which has 99 percent of their attention; while they are watching TV.

Multi tasking has taken root in all our communications because we are inundated with opportunities to connect to people and websites through our computers. The need for this shift is underscored when you consider the rapid expansion of the web.

SHIFT 4 From Demographics to Words
The most compelling shift in the marketing world involves the queen mother of all marketing icons: demographics. This is easy to understand. If you were responsible for marketing pools, which would you rather have, a TV commercial viewed by a woman 25 to 49, your target demo, or anyone, regardless of gender or age who clicks over to your website? Most products and services have targeted demographics but in reality, those products and services are experiencing great shifts in the targeted demographic anyway.

Take automobiles for example. Just 20 years ago, car dealers laughed at the idea of selling a car to a woman. Then, 10 years ago they laughed at selling cars over the Internet. When someone fills out a form of interest on the Internet, the car salesman doesnt care if its a woman or a man. Its a lead, period.

As our society has become more complex, as vanilla and chocolate has evolved right past 31 flavors to include whatever the imagination can create, as pepperoni pizzas have evolved to include pineapple and chicken, so has the concept of targeted demographics evolved.

In fact, if you look closely enough, those targeted demographics only exist in the traditional media. On the Internet, its about what words you want to own. Word ownership is not something you will hear much about unless you begin to explore the methodology of Non Linear Internet Marketing. All traffic moves on the Internet based on words. Those words take people from site to site. Those words are what the battle for Internet Visibility is all about.

What words do you want to own?

So you have your own website. Congratulations. Now, what exactly are you doing to get people to visit your site? Just like a brick and mortar storefront or an office suite in the commerce park, your website isn’t just going to become a popular hangout spot for clients and prospective customers. You’ve got to tell everyone about it!

When you open a restaurant, you put up signs, you take out a newspaper ad, you buy space in the yellow pages, you turn on the lights, you open the door, you tell everyone you meet about your new business. Your website deserves the same treatment. If you fail to promote your site, you’ve basically just spent a thousand dollars or more on a standard lot in cyberspace with no roads in and no roads out. You need to get the word out on your new company website, and here’s the best part… it doesn’t have to cost anything at all, if you’re willing to take the time and make the effort to do it yourself.

So…how does a small business owner jumpstart his or her website? You may consider hiring a professional to do it for you. Your web design and development firm built your site for visitors, but probably did not include promotion along with it. A good ad agency will raise the topic when quoting on your site. An experienced marketer knows it’s always best to group your promotions and cross-sell at every opportunity and should have suggested handling your web traffic. But in case they missed the boat, you can still contact a full-service ad agency to help. Of course, that’s not the FREE methods mentioned in the title of this piece, so for those who’d like to take a shot at handling it themselves, this article tells you 5 FREE steps to jumpstarting your web traffic:

1. Connect the Cables

2. Start the Engine

3. Get it Running

4. Give it Some Gas

5. Put it in Drive

Everyone who’s ever owned a car long enough to pay off the loan knows that an indispensable part of the trunk contents is a set of jumper cables (the other is a gallon of water). You never know when you’ll be stuck somewhere with a car that just won’t get going. Same with your website. It’s there, but it’s going nowhere unless you first get it connected to something that’s already running or capable of running. Whether you already have established business or not, you’ve got to connect your website to every promotional piece you create. This means adding your web address to:

- company stationery (business cards, letterhead, envelopes, invoices, quote sheets, receipts)

- business signage (windows, counter displays, and company vehicles)

- ads (yellow pages, newspapers, and local magazines)

- everything else (boxes, bags, cartons, promotional pieces and more)

Everything that gets your name and phone number, gets your URL (web address). This shouldn’t cost you anything if you wait until it’s time to reprint. But, if you want to get started today, you’ll need to redesign and reprint new promotional pieces to add your site. Since jumpstarting requires the cables be connected, it’s a great way to get your site visited sooner rather than later.

It’s important not to lose track of one key point, there are 2 sets of clamps on a set of jumper cables. You must make sure your website is sending the right message back to visitors. It must look and feel like your existing promotional pieces. Your brand identity is dependent upon it. And your website must clearly identify who you are, where you are and what you do. Your contact information is as critical online as it is on your business cards. Make sure the electrical current is flowing freely between both vehicles if you’re ever going to get rolling!

Okay. So your cables are connected, and now it’s time to start the other engine. The most important engine on the internet is the search engine. You want to become very friendly with Mr. Search Engine – because he knows lots and lots of people. You want his friends to be your friends. Search engines, and their brothers, Directories are the traffic cops of the internet. They basically tell people where to find the files and pages they’re looking for out of billions of documents on the world wide web. So…you can’t have them over for dinner, but…you can get them to know about you by sending them an invitation to visit your site.

Search engines use robots and spiders to crawl all over the web and take inventory of the files and their content, it’s a computerized process. You can wait weeks to be crawled, or you can help the process along by submitting your URL to the search engines directly. Well over 80% of internet users take their first step via a search engine like Google, AltaVista, or HotBot.

Directories like Yahoo, employ humans to compile lists of websites and web pages from the millions available online at any given time. You can also help the directories find you by submitting your site to the proper subdirectory inside these engines. Directories will “consider” your site on a free submission. If you want a guarantee, you’ll have to pay for it.

So, as soon as your website is complete and live, SUBMIT. List your site on as many FREE (there it is again) engines as you can find. Check out www.directoryguide.com for a list. You should resubmit your site every few months especially if you have had content changes, page additions or other major changes to your website. Make sure you submit to the “local” yellow pages and white pages online too. Most offer free listings for businesses.

If you haven’t already done so, confirm that your web developer added page titles and keywords to your website. If you aren’t using metadata like this, you need to. Search engines utilize the keywords and compare them to your content. They return your title and page descriptions in search results. Don’t expect the best ranking without metadata, so call on a pro to get your pages optimized. Consider your keywords carefully. They will be ones that are basic to your business or industry. Put the most important words and phrases first in the list.

Search engines like the popular sites. So, another way to make your site attractive to the search engines is to have lots of friends. The way to gain popularity is to have lots of good websites linking to your website. When a search engine returns results, they rank the pages based on relevancy and popularity. Your goal is to always be in the top five or ten listings returned on a search. Popularity pays off in ranking your site higher than other less noticeable sites (thousands of them!).

Getting popular doesn’t have to mean spending money. Sure you could spend thousands and thousands on ads to get onto the first page of search results (basically buying your friends), but why? If you can get your site linked up, you’ll get the engines fired up about you. You’ll find more info in steps 4 and 5 below.

Step 3 – Get it Running. Once the engine starts up, you need to let it run for a while to get the power flowing to your site. While it’s idling out in cyberspace, run off with promote your site via email. There are two email tactics you need to think about. The first is your email signature, the second is email marketing.

Your signature is unique, and your unique web address is as important as your name and phone number in the closing of every email you send out (business and personal). You and your employees must include your company’s digital signature. It should include a clickable link to your URL. This form of viral marketing is both FREE, and easy. Your email software will have a place to format your digital signature. Find it and use it.

Email marketing is one of the most effective tools to market your website and to showcase products and services. Permission-based email can be extremely targeted by including only those people who’ve expressed an interest in your business, product or industry. By building and maintaining your own house list, you ensure you’re compliance with anti-spam laws. There are also reputable list brokers who can help you choose a list of email addresses to prospect to with an offer, coupon, or other introductory special. Of course, list rental isn’t free, but you can certainly start building a list of your own with friends, family and current customers. You can ask for email addresses and permission to send on every inquiry your company receives both online and off. Build your list, keep it clean and offer an easy way for people to unsubscribe or opt out. Most important, send relevant and targeted content, a clear call to action, and pay close attention to your subject line. You want your mail to be opened, read, and acted upon. Armed with this info, you can easily create simple text emails for FREE!

Done correctly, email marketing will become an extremely powerful tool for sales and customer service. When you’re ready to make your email campaigns even more diverse, in-depth and creative, call on a professional marketer. But whether you keep it simple by doing it yourself, or hire someone for the task, don’t let this one get by you.

Pushing down the pedal helps boost the power. Step 4 of our FREE Steps to Jumpstarting your Web Traffic involves content. Quality content makes the difference between visited and forgotten. Hopefully, when you created your website, you included the kind of useful information web surfers are looking for. Your content is what makes your website important, it’s what keeps people coming back, and it’s what helps you rank in the search engines. Keep your content relevant, current, and easy to navigate. Some examples of content that you should include on your site, and keep updated, include:

- instructions for assembling and using your products

- technical specifications

- maintenance schedules

- warranty and upgrade information

- frequently asked questions (FAQs)

- articles/information bits on your industry, products, or services

You’re already an expert in your field, so show it off online! Write hints and tips, articles (like this one!) and more. Post this information on your website, but also, submit it to article and press release websites. These types of directories house hundreds of articles on all different topics. If you can’t write, then visit an article site and download some relevant content to use on your website. Here’s the bonus: if you write and submit, your bio and website link go with your article. Anyone who wishes to use your content must keep your bio and links intact. BAM! You just added links throughout the world wide web, back to YOUR site! Watch those FREE rankings go up in the search results! Giving your website some gas by filling it up with quality content is step number four in our 5 FREE Steps to Jumpstarting Your Website.

When steps 1-4 are complete, you’re ready to turn the key and shift into drive. You’re marketing your website on all your promotional material (for free), your site is ranking with the search engines (for free), you’re sending regular email messages to customers and growing your list (also for free), and you’re keeping your content relevant to both customers and potential customers (again…for free!). So now it’s time to take off! Once your site is doing things to help grow your business, it’s time to turnover it over with step 5 — new ideas. If you’ve started your website for Ecommerce, it’s time to enhance customer service. If you’ve begun as info only, it’s time to sell or take orders online. If your restaurant started a site just to add its menu, then it’s time to take customers in the kitchen, show them what their meal takes, what it’s made of, what you’re made of. Whatever you do, don’t just jumpstart your traffic, then sit back and watch everyone drive past you.

The final step to jumpstarting traffic is really not the end of the road. The internet is different daily. Search engines change their algorithms, new technology is available almost by the minute, consumer tastes and preferences are in a constant state of flux. In this environment, you need to keep your website and marketing tools up to date if you want to stay competitive. Subscribe to free E-zines, newsletters and other information sources that will keep you current on what’s new and what’s hot. Keep your marketing efforts tuned up and it will always be rush hour on your website.

Are you having a hard time attaining quick weight loss in spite of a healthy diet and exercise? If you answered yes than you may need to examine your beverage intake. By now, a lot of us are well aware of the fact that sugary sodas are a big no-no, but what about other drinks? Can we freely drink all fruit juices or even milk? Here are some of the answers.

Everyone knows that sugary laden drinks are the culprits behind a fluctuating waistline, what about fruit juice or milk? Do these two products contain many calories? Can they have a deep enough impact on our weight loss goals? Unfortunately, the answer to these questions is “yes.” Although these two beverages are rich in beneficial nutrients, they also contain a high number of calories (and just so you know, calories in liquid form count just the same as calories in solid form). As far as milk is concerned, if you want to lose weight you should stick with the lowest percent milk (1% is best). Whole milk can definitely put a damper on your weight loss goals. It is important that you examine the entire calorie intake pertaining to the diet you are currently consuming.

Chances have it, if you are trying to lose weight, you probably consume large amount of fruit juices. A lot of weight loss enthusiasts drink a couple tall glasses of juice prior to every meal in order to minimize the amount of calories they consume. However, some of those juices may contain even more calories than the meal you are sizing down.  Furthermore, research has shown that drinking liquids either before or during a meal has little or no effect on how much we eat. The only way we can feel fuller on fewer calories is if we eat foods that have high water content, such as fruit, vegetables, and soup. That is why the best beverage for any weight loss enthusiast is water.

Correct English Spelling & Grammar Checker seems to become an ideal solution for writing, editing and proofreading at the same time. Writing is a significant tool in our life – think for a moment how many hours a day you spend on writing, editing, and proofreading your various writing assignments. The following article will show you how you can instantly correct your English grammar writing by using advanced technology.

Some background

Correct English Spelling & Grammar Checker solutions focus on one important goal: that is improving your English writing by analyzing your text, identifying any grammatical or spelling errors, editing and correcting. Many of these NLP solutions (Natural Language Processing) quickly analyze your content by using advanced algorithms, and then ‘fix’ it according to their internal ‘correct text’ DB. These sophisticated software solutions usually provide the following: checking for proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and sometimes few of them offer text enrichment.

Quick benefits and advantages

By now we clearly notice how this technology transforms our life easier:

  • Saving precious time spent on manual proofreading.
  • Improving and enriching our speech, enabling us to speak correct and better English.
  • Analyzing our sentence structure for correct punctuation, thus transforming our writing more comprehendible.

We could probably count other advantages that aren’t mentioned here, as this solution constantly changes, bringing us new ideas and additional solutions that help us on improving our English writing and editing skills.

Conclusion

Correct English Spelling & Grammar Checker helps us accomplish the other half of our writing assignments – that is proofreading our text. There is no doubt that this kind of artificial intelligence can never compete with professional human editors, but it can sure help most of us with basic grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. Undoubtedly we can expect this advanced tool to further develop itself, for a single reason: writing is one of the most important tools that help us expressing ourselves.

For those of us looking for quick weight loss, Halloween can be a scary experience! While just one night of indulgence in Halloween candy might not be enough to break your belt, dipping into the leftover stockpile for weeks on end will surely derail your diet or weight loss program.

In 1921, in Anoka, MN, the United States enjoyed our first recorded instance of a Halloween celebration. Annual candy consumption has climbed almost unabated since then. According to the Census Bureau, Americans eat nearly a half-pound of candy each week for an average of 25 pounds of candy a year. Candy is big business, with the United States boasting 1,040 manufacturing establishments producing chocolate and cocoa products in 2001. These establishments employed 45,913 people and shipped $12 billion worth of goods that year. Another 616 U.S. establishments manufactured non-chocolate confectionery products in 2001. These establishments employed 26,400 people and shipped $7 billion worth of goods that year (source: census.gov).

The overwhelming popularity of the South Beach Diet, Zone Diet, and Atkins Diet has prompted low-carb weight watchers to eat less candy. Overall consumption has actually declined over the last few years; as recently as 1997 the average annual candy consumption was a sky-high 27 pounds.

The Problem:
Most people on a diet plan or weight control program look at candy as little brightly-colored fat bombs. That assessment isn’t far off the mark, either, with most candy packing little nutritional value and a ton of calories.

Some of the more popular Halloween candy has too many calories to be included in any healthy diet:
Twizzlers 1 treat size pkg.= 45 calories
Almond Joy 1 snack size bar = 90 calories
Milk Duds 1 treat size box = 40 calories
Butterfinger 1 snack size bar = 100 calories
Milky Way 1 snack size bar = 90 calories
SweetTarts 1 treat size pkg. = 50 calories
1 Tootsie Pop 1 pop = 60 calories
1 Tootsie Roll 1 small roll = 13 calories

Note: Calorie content is based on 1 serving of Halloween ’snack’ or ‘fun’ size packages, not full size servings found in the candy aisle.

While just a few pieces of Halloween candy won’t obliterate your diet program or weight loss plan, it’s the temptation to keep having ‘just one more’ that will pack on the pounds. It only takes nine small fun-size candy bars to put on a quarter-pound of fat. Besides candy, Halloween threatens many other high-calorie treats like Caramel apples (243 calories), 8-oz. apple cider and a cake donut (319 calories), or a slice of pumpkin pie (240 calories).

The Solution:
Is it possible to cope with the menace of Halloween candy without taking all the fun out of the holiday? Absolutely! If you’re looking for fast weight loss, and don’t want Halloween to bring your fat loss to a screeching halt, consider these healthy Halloween tips:

1. Walk with your kids while they’re trick-or-treating. A 165-lb. woman strolling along (walking slowly) for one hour will burn approximately 150 calories (source: caloriesperhour.com).
2. Out of sight, out of mind. When the kids have unloaded their stash, store it in an airtight container and put it in the cupboard. A bowl full of candy on the counter is an open invitation to have ‘just one’, but a stockpile you can’t see is less tempting.
3. If you’re going to give out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween, don’t buy it until October 31st. Having a candy supply in the house before Halloween only entices you to have some early.
4. If you must buy candy before Halloween, buy a kind you don’t like. Again, this will reduce the temptation for you to dig in.
5. Hosting a Halloween party? Supply vegetables, healthy dips, and low fat snacking alternatives instead of candy.
6. Set a Halloween candy deadline by which all Halloween candy must be either consumed (by the kids) or it will be thrown away. Saving that candy for weeks, or even months, only keeps temptation in the house.
7. Put more emphasis on dressing up in a great costume, and less on candy. This is especially true for the kids, who often view Halloween as a candy free-for-all dream come true.
8. By hosting a party on Halloween night, you can control the menu and have fun with friends at the same time.
9. Focus on Halloween activities other than eating. There are lots of options available, from hayrides to haunted houses to bonfires.
10. Candy has a long shelf life, and there’s no reason why you couldn’t put some of it in airtight bags and store it in the freezer. Allow the kids to take out one bag every two weeks until it’s gone. This tactic will at least space out the temptation and minimize candy binge eating.

Of course, the absolute best way to avoid weight gain, and perhaps even achieve some easy weight loss, during the Halloween season is to bump up the amount of exercise you’re getting. There’s no better way to lose weight fast than a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Make sure the workout you’re doing includes both aerobic and resistance training, as it is critical to get both types of exercise to maximize weight loss. It’s also important to exercise for at least thirty minutes, three times per week, which is the most recent recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (source: cdc.gov).

A fantastic strategy is to find the best weight loss program for you now, before Halloween hits. The reason is that the last three months of the year are packed with holidays, special dinners and seasonal treats. Starting with Halloween candy and ending with Christmas fudge, many people find that they’re packing on more pounds during this period than they do any other time of year.

Joining a gym is an excellent way to combat Halloween and holiday weight gain. Finding a good gym to join now will not only help keep off those holiday pounds, but will even make you slimmer by New Years.

It seems like health advice is rammed down our throats whenever we open a newspaper or watch the TV. Even one of my favorite drinks, green tea is under the medical spotlight.

It was when I chanced upon a report all about the potential side effects of caffeine and it mentioned green tea caffeine content as being something to be aware of that I sat up and listened. The thing I’ve found out over time is that when you get ten experts together you often get ten different views or opinions.

Where does that leave the poor old consumer who remains none the wiser, still scratching his head frustrated, not knowing what to do. Having to sift through information from studies and research is time consuming and very often there is conflicting data. However, the most obvious way of avoiding caffeine in a drink like green tea or for that matter any other beverage, is to drink a decaffeinated variety.

Sounds pretty straightforward to me and easy to do. But wait, I read somewhere that the process of removing the caffeine leaves the green tea with fewer antioxidants. These are the all important compounds and substances found in green tea that provide a lot of the health benefits we receive when we drink it. In this case all one has to do is drink a little bit more of the decaffeinated tea, ensuring you get the same level of antioxidants.

If like me you often find it difficult or inconvenient to brew green tea several times a day, there is an alternative. It’s now possible to find daily nutritional supplements that contain a decaffeinated, green tea extract. Just be sure it’s from a recognized maker who uses the best natural ingredients.

I want to watch Valentine’s day online for free but every website I go to I have to do a survey so what are some websites to watch Valentine’s day online for free without the surveys? Please help!

And of course the very first answer you get is… a site that requires surveys! I don’t think people even read the question any more, they just go "YOUWANTMOVIES? HERE’SSOMESPAM!!"

Here we go with a few tips that might be useful for you (or your designer) you when creating the next Advertising to be broadcasted on your LEDwall. If you want to get the most out of your LEDwall (and your Customers) in terms of recognition from the audience, this article will tell which are the worst mistake people make when creating a new ad. If you don’t have a LEDwall yet, but you are thinking about getting one to start your advertising business, I’m sure you will find the next few posts very interesting as well. So lets start.

First of all, the ad duration: some people make the huge mistake of creating 30/40 seconds ads. 30 seconds? Are you crazy people? Your audience is not sitting on a sofa waiting for the next TV show! They are most probably driving-by at 30/40 km per hour and hopefully they are more focused on the street rather than your screen.

Still they should be able to see the entire Ads, from start to end while passing by. So what’s the point of creating a wonderful Ad, if they can not read the advertiser’s phone number and address at the end because the ad is too long?! From my experience an Ad should be maximum 10 seconds in length (rarely 15).

Longer ads are pointless because either your target sees the beginning but not the end, or vice-versa. In both cases, 1. you didn’t get the message across, 2. the audience did not find an interesting message on your LEDwall, therefore will have no interest in doing it again in the future and 3. your Customer didn’t get much in return for his investment, which should be your very first concern if you want him to come and buy your services again in the future.

Of course there are exceptions to the “10 seconds” general rule, say for LEDwalls installed in pedestrian areas, where people have more time to watch the LEDwall. But as I said, those are exceptions. They are rare. And anyways 30 seconds is still too much, even in these cases.

If you read my past articles, you know why text and numbers appear blurry on a LEDwall with virtual pixel. You can not solve that, but at least try not to make it worse! The first rule of formatting when creating text (ie. the address, phone number etc) for a LEDwall AD is… Ready? Make letters BIIIG! At least 1/4 of the screen! I cant understand those designers that create super small text, that might look nice on their PC or MAC monitor when they create it, but its terrible when broadcast on the LEDwall.

Second rule of formatting: do not apply shades or glossy effects on text. Get it? As said before, this fancy effects might look nice on the monitor, but they definitely they are not cool on the LEDwall. The reason for it is that, despite of its huge size, the LEDwall has actually less pixels than you PC monitor. Much less pixels. So it is pointless to create special shining effects on a 5 centimetres letter that look big on a PC but its invisible on a LED screen.

Third rule of formatting: use sans serif fonts only. If the text looks blurry on the LEDwall, we should make any possible effort to make things better. Serif fonts (ie. Courier, Times New Roman etc) are very nice on the PC monitor but they do have the serifs which add pointless “noise” to the text and make it look less clear. Imagine this situation amplified by the “blurry” effect of the virtual pixel. Not good.

Instead use Sans Serif fonts such as Verdana or Tahoma, as they appear much more readable on the LEDwall. And if you absolutely have to use a “noisy” font, at least please use it in big size.

Fourth rule of formatting: use contrasting colors. Over 20 years ago Ms Karen Claus published a table, indicating the color-match with the best contrast ratio. She did it for the classic static signage, but the principle is still valid today. According to her research and studies, the best matches are: black on yellow; black on white; yellow on black; white on blue; yellow on blue; green on white; blue on yellow; white on green. Please use text colors in such combinations and try to avoid such things as pink-on-red.

Fifth rule of formatting: the most plain the text is, the better. On LEDwalls, you have 10/15 seconds to make your ad memorable. It means that if the text is not clear at the first sight, people wont give it a second chance. Remember that they are most probably driving at about 35 km/h and hopefully they are more concerned about the road rather than about a fuzzy headline.

Body boarding is an exciting sport that involves riding waves while lying on the stomach on a special kind of board, known as a body board. The body boards are made of special kind of foam, known as hydrodynamic foam. This foam can glide on water, making riding the waves a breeze even for amateurs. Body boarding should not be considered to be the same as surfboarding, although both of these activities involve riding waves on a board. Body boards are significantly larger and wider than surfboards, and the rider can lie down comfortably on these.

Body boards come in various sizes in order to meet the requirements of people of different heights and weights. There are 37” long boards for people who are around 123 cm in height and somewhere around 55 kg in weight. There are also 46” long, giant sized boards for people who are more than 196 cm tall and weigh more than 100 kg. So, whatever your body type may be, do not worry. If you are dexterous enough, you can enjoy body boarding to your heart’s content.

Body boarders need good boards for riding the waves safely. Riding waves is dangerous, and a good body board can make the difference between life and death in case something goes wrong. If you are looking to buy or rent a body board, look for the following qualities in it before you make your decision:

  1. Take a close look at the board. Inexpensive body boards often have a porous surface. These can get waterlogged fairly quickly, and increase in weight. A heavy board has a greater chance of sinking, so make sure the body is solid foam, with not much porosity.
  2. Make sure the board is of the right size for you. Hold the body board in an upright position with the tail end touching the floor. The top end should come up to within 2 cm above or below your navel.
  3. The surface of the board should be smooth. There should be no jagged edges, cracks, splinters, or gouges on the top surface of the board.
  4. Check the underside of the board. If you are a beginner, it is best to choose a board that has its tail curving inward and sloping downward. This kind of boards can glide easily on the water surface, and make steering the board significantly easy.
  5. Lay down the body board on the floor. The board should lie perfectly flat on the floor, and should not tilt, or wobble. Perfectly flat boards float better on water than bent boards.
  6. Make sure the board is flexible. One way of testing this is to hold the board upright, leaning against your stomach. Gently pull the snout of the board downward. If it bends very easily, or not at all, it is not a good board. It should bend to some extent and then resist any further bending after a while. Flexible boards are good for body boarding, but too much flexibility shows a lack in craftsmanship.

Body boarding is a very enjoyable adventure sport. Make sure you choose the right kind of body board so that you can enjoy riding waves on it safely, and for a long time.
